☕️ Coffee. Candidates. Community.
Why I’m Building The Creator’s Club. A new space for founders, executives, hiring managers, and recruiters who want less noise, more signal—and a damn good cup of coffee.
Over the last 20+ years in recruiting, I’ve learned something simple but powerful:
The best hires—and the best ideas—don’t happen in your applicant tracking system.
They happen in real conversations. Usually over coffee.
Sometimes it’s 6 a.m. in a quiet shop.
Sometimes it’s on a walk.
Sometimes it’s a “let’s just catch up” call that turns into a game-changing hire.
Meanwhile, recruiting has become… kind of a mess.
Spammy outreach.
Fake candidates.
Ghosting on both sides.
Teams drowning in tools, starving for real help.
Founders and executives left wondering: Why is this still so hard?
That’s why I’m building The Creator’s Club.
In recruiting, you’re not just “filling roles.”
Most of the time, you’re creating—literally building a mental image of the ideal candidate from the perspective of a hiring manager. You take that fuzzy, sometimes contradictory vision… and go bring it to life.
Recruiting is an act of creation.
That’s why I chose the name.
This isn’t just a newsletter. It’s a space for people who build—teams, companies, careers. For founders, executives, hiring managers, recruiters, and leaders who care about quality, not noise.
It’s not another Slack group that collects dust.
It’s a community-in-progress—for hiring managers, founders, recruiters, and builders—who want:
🧠 High-signal, low-noise ideas
🔍 Real, vetted candidates (not LinkedIn chaos)
🧃 Honest conversations about what’s working in hiring
☕️ And yes, good coffee along the way
What to expect here:
Each post will be short and useful.
I’ll share:
Real-world hiring frameworks, red flags, and mental models
Lessons from building Ramp Talent and Sumato Coffee
Stories from startups, construction firms, AI labs, and healthtech, legaltech, professional services firms, medical device and other areas
Tools and workflows that actually help
Candid interviews with people who actually build teams
As this grows, you’ll also get:
Invitations to in-person Creator’s Club Coffee Meetups (Starting in Salt Lake City, and expanding from there)
Access to pre-vetted candidates from Ramp Talent’s network
Early experiments in community hiring tools and data
And maybe a few rants, some wins, and some behind-the-scenes from my journey building two brands I care deeply about.
If you were part of The Deputy, welcome back—you’re already in. This is the next evolution: more community, more value, and a sharper focus on hiring, building, and creating.
If this sounds like something you’d want to be part of, hit Subscribe.
If you know someone who hires or recruits, forward this to them.
And if you’ve got a big idea—or want to grab coffee—reply to this.
Let’s build the kind of hiring community we actually need.
Thanks for being here.
