Don’t Hold Grudges. Change Your Vibe.
Sometimes the best business move isn’t closing a deal. It’s shaking a hand you didn’t want to shake.
The other day I ran into someone I didn’t exactly have warm, fuzzy feelings for. Not hate, just a sour aftertaste from our last interaction.
Back in my HireVue days, I interviewed this guy for an exec role. We’ll call him Recker Rasmuzzen (yes, made up but let’s be honest, Utah is full of names like that).
When I first met Recker, he was solid. Nice guy, good handshake, good energy. We didn’t hire him mostly because of timing and cost, not because he lacked chops. Over the years, we bumped into each other at tech events, traded small talk, and things were fine.
Later, after his big exit, he launched a consulting gig and pulled me in on a couple deals. One turned into real business after a lot of work, hand written cards and donuts from myself and solid recruiter and Recker had disappeared. Another, where he was in a leadership seat, fizzled out. I put in a ton of time, but he never really stuck up for me. It felt like a dead end. We were ghosted…
So when I saw him the other day at a co-working space, I had a choice: ignore him (like I thought he might do to me)…or lean in. I walked up, shook his hand, and we had a good chat. Harmonious again. No grudges. No baggage. If something business-related comes of it, great. If not, I’m still good.
The Takeaway
Don’t hold grudges. Adjust your posture, your vibe, your attitude. Positive energy attracts positive people. That shift creates space for business, for relationships, for growth.
You can create wealth, health, and wisdom. But it starts in your mind. Unlock it.
And today especially, let’s remember 9/11 a reminder of what truly matters and how fleeting it all can be.
